Hey everyone! Let me just start off this post with:
Man you guys, it is SOOO good to be back!! 😀
I missed doing this so much! In the past few months I have been doing a lot of learning and growing….but more on that in an upcoming post
To get things started off right, I wanted to share this incredible smoothie recipe with you. I have been in the process of kicking my own butt lately, doing yoga and running. I’ll get real with y’all…it’s been a little bittersweet at times – when my brain isn’t on board with my game face and tries to convince us all to just stay in bed an extra half an hour and run later. Which, of course, will never actually happen because I live in Phoenix! For those of you who haven’t been, or haven’t heard about us on Discovery Channel specials titled things like “The crazy desert place that is so hot you really have to be crazy to live there”, this place is hot. Burn your skin and bake your brains hot. So if you want to work outside at any point from May to October, you pretty much have to do it before 7 AM.
I know, right? Insane.
A few things really help me convince my brain to get on board with the “pain is gain” idea, and one of those things is this here little smoothie. I call it the Purple Protein Smoothie. Smoothies are incredible. There’s something almost magical about throwing all kinds of different ingredients together into that blender, whirling it to mouth feel perfection, and enjoying what you would normally never eat together. No, I have no idea how the blender does it.
It just makes things awesome!
I have to tell you guys the story of how this smoothie came to be. I was taking an online photography class and decided to use berries as my subject. The class was 30 days long, so you can imagine…I had a lot of berries at my house. Anyone who has known me for even a week knows that I kinda go a little coo-coo when it comes to veggies. I seriously love them like it’s my job, and not because it’s stupid trendy right now to love vegetables. I grew up with them. Meat and veggies, that’s the way to this girl’s heart, and I ain’t ashamed to say it. So when it comes to fruit, I need a little help. Weird, I know.
Fruit have always been the cute little something that someone puts out at a party as an appetizer that I admire for their beautiful colors, and then start looking for the main course…because it will probably have veggies. Not anymore.
Let me tell you, after this photography class, I have learned how to enjoy me some fruit and berries….just throw those bad boys in the magic blender, and viola! I love this purple smoothie because of it’s fruit and because of it’s intense purple color….it’s like Cool-Aid only 5 million times better because it looks incredible and actually tastes incredible too. AND it’s good for you? Stop it…
One more great thing about our little friend here is it’s packing a punch…a protein punch. I got this super yummy cookies n cream flavored protein powder from CostCo (don’t judge me…they were out of chocolate), and it was good on it’s own. After working hard my body needs a protein-powered pick-me-up, and this purple wonder has my name written all over it. No muss, no fuss, minimal clean up and nearly immediate get-in-my-mouth-cuz-I’m-starving results. The perfect post work out breakfast!
